Goodwin Trophy Race 8
– Race Officers: Jane Deith and Ollie Bennett – Safety Boat: Joe Driver and George Gaynor With the day set fair-ish a very healthy 12 boats turned out for a trip round the buoys. The river looked very low so we had more cups of tea and started later than advertised. With a west-south-westerly wind, it made a starboard run at the start tricky so as the bell struck, we saw sailors like Allan and Henry streak (not literally) for the line on Port. Perfectly timed by all, no-one was over the line, so it was game on for the first buoy. The fleet made short work of the fairly short course (sorry Renato, barely had you left the slipway and you were back again!). The fleet was too far away to give a detailed description of the race. But Renato was chased by Allan and Henry. For a while John and Bob were having a very strong race and well in contention. Then Jamie began to move up and he eventually came third, beating Steph by a slender 6 seconds on adjusted times. The flurry of Laser...
